Share of 65+ people rise fastest in retail crediting in 2017

MOSCOW, Feb 27 (PRIME) -- The share of borrowers aged over 65 rose 0.6 percentage points on the year to 4.6% in Russia’s retail loan portfolio in 2017, the biggest growth among all age groups, the National Bureau of Credit Records said on Tuesday.

The share of the age segment of below 25 also demonstrated material growth of 0.5 percentage points to 5.3%. The share of age segments of 30-39, 40-49 and 60-65 years grew by 0.1-0.4 percentage points.

The biggest share of 65+ borrowers among the 40 regions demonstrating the fastest growth of retail loaning are seen in the Altai region, where crediting increased 7.1%, the republic of Buryatia, where it rose 6.6%, the Primorsky and Penza regions with 6% and 5.9% growth rates respectively, respectively.

The lowest share of senior borrowers is seen in the wealthier Khanti-Mansi autonomous republic, where it amounted to 2.6%, the Moscow Region, where it rose 2.8%, St Petersburg with 3.4% growth, and Moscow with 3.5%.

“Retail crediting of all types, including secured and unsecured loans, rises. The number of borrowers with existing credits of all age segments also increases,” CEO of the National Bureau of Credit Records Alexander Vikulin said.

“From the point of view of age structure, people of over 65 demonstrate the highest growth rate. This category of borrowers are conspicuous for their responsible to all aspects of life, including finances. Besides, these people have a pension, which means they have a stable and predictable income.”
